Trattoria Dei Magnani Al Cantinone

We were in Milan for about 3-4 days last November before we headed to Rome. We have done quite a bit of research on where we should eat through my favorite tripadvisor. With the help of unlimited data usage, we had our GPS on each time we need to look for an exact location. With GPS, you will never lost your way again especially when you are on a foreign land.

There are actually 2 different entrances to this restaurant. One of them leads you to the restaurant which is the one I am reviewing on and another is the side for the mini buffet. Its more of a casual dining area where you order you food at the counter and it is cheaper too.

Papp cinghiale

This tomato based, flat and broad pasta looks a bit like the horfun we have in Singapore. Believe we don't get to see or try this often in Singapore. The texture is good and as Italian pasta is generally a little harder and doesn't feels that it is 100% cooked, you may not get used to it the first time you try the pasta in Italy. However to my surprise, the texture for this dish is really good. It is cooked with generous chunks of boar meat.

Price: 12 Euro

Spaghetti continone

This tomato based spaghetti with quite a strong taste of sardine is topped with this chunks of white chewy mozzarella.

Price: 12 Euro

Polenta funghi

The watery polenta is relatively bland but if eaten together with the sauteed mushroom and shaved cheese, it tasted pretty good.

Shabu No Koya

We decided to purchase this offer from groupon for a shabu shabu meal so as to coincide with my "No Carbo Diet" for these 3 weeks. The deal was cheap and the restaurant was at liang court and thus we decided to go ahead. This is the first time that we are buying a dinning deal from groupon.

Egg Beancurd

I can't remember the exact price for this dish. But it should be around $6-$8 for these 3 TINY pieces of beancurd which taste just very normal. This dish is not inclusive in the groupon deal and it is a total waste of money to order this.

They have different soup base to choose from. Probably 3-4 varieties, not exactly alot. We chose this fish soup which taste just like their original soup. I have not tried their original soup before but when I asked the assistant how the original soup tasted liked, she told me it is just plain water with some seaweed added.

Soup

This taste exactly like plain water with seaweed. There isn't a titch of fish.

So this is what you get for the set. There is also a selection of either udon or rice. But we did not take either due to the strict diet that I am undergoing now to lose weight for CNY.

Pork Shabu Shabu

All I can say is that this is a total disappointment and I will definitely not go back again. The pork is not really tasty either although they do slice it on the spot for you. The soup was still pretty much tasteless after cooking everything. This is also the reason why I did not take a picture of the receipt as I think that there is no need to know the price since I am totally not recommending it.

But well, I can remember that the bill comes up to about $50 in total which includes all you see from above and also 2 cups of ice green tea.

Ristorante Galleria

This was where we had our first dinner in Milan. The restaurant is situated at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Duomo.

Breads are served in  all the restaurants in Italy before your food is served. I have to say that the bread served in this restaurant is hard like a rock.

Ravioli di magro with butter and sage

There are about 6 - 7 pieces of them for each serving and yes when it was served I was thinking to myself that these are not going to fill my stomach. But I was wrong. It was actually rather filling. The ravioli is filled with ricotta cheese and spinach and is bland but with a titch of saltiness. It was just nice for me.

Price: 14 Euros

4 Stagioni

B had a pizza to herself and of course it was too big for her to finish. So with some help from me, we managed to clear the whole plate eventually. The pizza consist of tomato sauce, mozzarella, olives, ham and artichokes. The cheese spread across the thin crust evenly. It was good.

Price: 13 Euros

I did not manage to take a picture of the receipt though. But after adding the bottle of still water, the bill came up to about 30 Euros.

Wee Nam Kee

We visited the branch at Marina Square for some local food craving as we have not been having any for a long time. I am a fan of local delights!

Salted egg pork ribs

Opps. We have each ate a piece of pork ribs before we remember to take a picture of it. The salted egg yolk is thick and covers the deep fried pork ribs evenly. We ordered the small portion.

Price: $8.55

Sambal Kang Kong

Sorry for the blur image. The sambal is a little salty but I like it because the taste of the dried shrimps is strong and that makes the plate of sambal kang kong taste even better.

Price: $6.40

Roasted Chicken

This is for a person's share and of course if does comes with a plate of fragrance rice and soup. We added an egg for $0.50.

Price: $4.00 (without the egg)

Trattoria Lafiandra

So we had our last dinner of 2012 at this Italian restaurant where a friend of ours brought us there for the first time years ago. It is probably one of the best Italian restaurant that we have been in Singapore or perhaps we haven't been to more.

Burratina alla Coratina

B fell in love with this when we went to Italy in November. We had it in Italy for almost every meal. And of course when we are back in Singapore, there is a need to hunt it down to crave B's craving.

The Mozzarella is a little soft as compare to the baffalo mozzarella we had in Italy. The dressing and the tomatoes goes together pretty well.

Price: $19.80

Prosciutto E Funghi

I always feel that pizza is for sharing till I see people eating the whole pizza on their own. Well that is not for my liking and it will be too filling for me too. It comes with ham and mushroom. The melted mozzarella on the thin crust pizza tasted great while eaten hot. It doesn't taste as good when it turns colder. But I guess that goes the same for all pizzas. I would still prefer the pizza in Pepperoni.

Price: $24.50

Tagliatelle alla rucola con granchio pomodoro fresco

The tagliatelle is cooked with generous serving of crabmeat and tomatoes in extra virgin olive oil. The pasta is soft and yes I prefer it softer even though I know that is not the authentic way of cooking pasta. The portion is just nice for 1 person and it is rather filling.

Price: $22.50

Crostata di mele con gelato alla vaniglia

Warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream. The apple tart is tasty but the portion is a little too small. We practically finished the whole tart with 4 mouth.

We were both very full after finishing our main course and appetizer. Thus we decided to cancel the dessert. So after finishing all that we have on our plates, we called for the waitress to cancel the dessert. Without checking with the kitchen, she told us that the chef is already heating up our dessert. Well I don't know how true it is as I thought they should probably start heating up the dessert when I give them the green light to serve? What if I decide to start having my dessert much later? I politely asked her to just do a courtesy check with the kitchen as we are really full. And as expected, she went to the kitchen and came back very quickly informing us that the chef is already preparing it.
